TILT w/Tommie Sunshine March 4th @ Spaceland! wooot wooooot

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The first time I saw Tommie Sunshine I thought who IS this beardy mothafucka. The first time I heard Tommie Sunshine, I thought WHOAH, that beard must be hiding musical secrets, assorted smiles etc. I mean just look at all of these assorted jams . Classic Disco/House/Acid mixed into maximum party-bilities.

Rounding out the night, the ever-fashionable Louisahhh of Staccato (who’s mix was stuck in my car CD player for 2 months - by choice!), and Steven Bloodbath, who has personally invented new ways to party that are so phenomenally illegal that i can’t even hint about what I’m talking about.

You don’t have to believe me that this will be awesome, check out our what our buddies at Tilt have to say - they have some more sweet jams posted there too :).

Jokers of The Scene - Saturday Dec. 19 2009!

blow up la flyer

Oh man. Canada’s best contribution to life since poutine unstoppable duo Jokers of the Scene are playing Blow UP LA this Saturday at one of our favorite undisclosed (as of yet) locations. I don’t know if any of you happened to catch their set at Coachella but it was one of my favorite DJ sets of the entire festival.

If that weren’t enough, Goddollars, from the self described “poly-sexual dance party” otherwise known as “A Club Called Rhonda” will be actively churning the dancefloor into a sexy sweatbox (which sounds like a vagina and is actually surprisingly similar).

Dirty Dave and Whitney Fierce (Lewd NYC) will start the night off with enough sexual energy to sterilize a rape whale. Which doesn’t make sense, but neither does this.

Grab the JOTS remix of Passion Pit’s Little Secret from rcrdlbl.com here.

$10 / $5 before 11 w/ RSVP to www.blowuplaevents.com/holiday

Downtown LA Loft: 263 S Main St @ 3rd,  10pm - 4am
Check out full deets on Facebook!

Something else for your ipod…

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Although not directly related to Blow Up LA, everyone likes free music. So here’s an awesome mix and a story that goes with it you can read while the mix downloads!

A long time ago, when I was really into the drum and bass scene in Florida in 1999, I was at an event where a record was thrown off the turntables and into the crowd. Yes, people used records to mix then! I’m not talking serrato records either! Anyhow, that record flew into a ceiling fan, which catapulted it down at a ridiculous speed….right into my FACE. I was knocked completely out cold and fell down. This was the first time I met UK drum and bass producer/dj and owner of East Side Records, A-Sides. He was so concerned that he ran over and picked me up and helped me. I ended up with a mild concussion, and an adopted big brother. It’s been ten years since that night, and I couldn’t have asked for a more hilarious start to an incredible friendship. A-sides has dropped more drum and bass mixes and original tracks than you can imagine during that time, but this mix is actually one of the rarer hip hop mixes of all 80s tracks. It’s rad as hell, and you probably will enjoy it:) Huge thank you to him for sending this over to me!

Also, for those of you who also listen to drum and bass, he will be dj’ing the Respect 10 year anniversary party in Los Angeles on March 10th! He’s legendary.

Winter Formal Line Up Preview!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

So we are just a few short weeks away from January’s winter formal, and I can’t believe I haven’t found a date yet…OMFG HALP! Anyhow, to get you pumped up I will tell you who two of our amazingly talented dj’s are. First up, we have Cobra Krames who is coming back to knock your socks off. Remember last time when he practically blasted yall to the moon? What a fun Oktoberfest party that was. And now…omg yall! For the first time at blow up, and someone I am most excited about because he’s a southerner like myself and I’ve known him for years….

COMPUTER CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the blow up blog:) mike cpuclub!

Yes, the awesomeness of Mike (aka Computer Club and Gigantor of Evol Intent) has been rocking my ipod to death with his covers of New Order, Ministry, as well as remixes of Nine Inch Nails and Prince. I’ve always been an goth/industrial girl so those songs have a special place in my heart, and to hear them reworked into electro dancefloor KILLERS makes me even happier– it’s literally the best of both worlds. He is continually in the studio with Le CastleVania, and always puts out quality tracks. He’s just moved to LA from the dirty south, as I made the same move a few years ago, and he’s been rockin’ kids all over the continent for years and years and years. Make sure you all check him out on myspace and give him a nice Blow Up Hazing…er welcoming party on the 24th.

Now, add these tracks to your collection and get ready to dance on the 24th!:) Right click and save as!

Prince - Erotic City (Computer Club_Reflip)

Bizzare Love Triangle - Computer Club (Cover of New Order)

Computer Club - Laptop Levitation

for http://www.blowuplaevents.com

Little Boots is talented, awesome, and she’s pretty damn cute too. Treasure Fingers is also awesome, and he has a funny beard (jk AJ, we love the beard!!) He also has a knack for remixing songs with magic and lazers so they sound so incredible you can’t help but dance. He just recently remixed Little Boots’ “Meddle” and you need to listen to it. A lot. Right Click and Save as.

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

One of our previous blow up dj’s and favorite party people, Designer Drugs just released another awesome remix today. This one in particular is incredibly dear to my heart because it is a new take on one of my favorite all time tracks, from one of my favorite bands, IAMX. I’ve always been somewhat of a goth/industrial girl my entire life, and really, Chris Corner (who is IAMX and also Sneaker Pimps) should probably just marry me already;) I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

IAMX - Spit it Out (Designer Drugs Remix)

Keep your eyes peeled and your ipods rockin’ because iheartcomix will be putting out their new single Zombies just in time for Halloween, on October 28th. Hopefully they will grace our presence at blow up once again before the year is over. And they better play the IAMX remix or I will be quite sad, rather fitting for a goth girl don’t you think?;)
