JUNE 23!! WHAWESOME TOWN - ALL CAPS EDITION, ADAM SALTER, VALIDA, MR. BIGGS

June 21st, 2010

OK THIS IS AN ALL CAPS SITUATION. THE SITUATION WE ARE DEALING WITH IS AS OBTRUSIVE AND LOUD AS THEY COME, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

Awesometown

HAVE YOU. EVER HEARD OF SAN DIEGO? OUR NEIGHBOR TO THE SOUTH? WELL. THIS ALL CAPS WEDNESDAY BRINGS SOUTH TO NORTH, ASS TO MOUTH, IN A BACKWARDS SORT OF SITUATION. NO, DON’T WORRY IT’S NOT ‘THE SITUATION’. NO ABS AT ALL REALLY. JUST SAN DIEGO’S NUMBER ONE BRINGER OF MAYHEM ADAM SALTER - AND LA’S FAV VALIDA WILL BE JOINING TURNTABLE LAB’S MR. BIGGS FOR AN ALL CAPS DANCE PARTY.

OH AND IF THAT WEREN’T ENOUGH - DIRTY DAVE, WHICH CAN ALSO BE ABBREVIATED TO DURRRRRRRRRREEEE DAVE WILL BE WRAPPING IT UP LIKE A DICK ON NYE.

Awesometown May 26

Awesometown continues to shock and awe with lineups so awesome that the short stop may explode into boobs and catapults.

Shuttle of Passion Pit frame, usually graces stages much larger than the corner DJ booth of our humble short stop. I’m betting this intimate setting will mean the set is going to get a bit wild, the floor will get luice, and I’m expecting sexy temperatures with a spoonability index in the high forfties.

Passion Pit - The Reeling (Shuttle’s Super Club Mega Mix ‘99) by HARDESTY

Rounding out the lineup, DJ Huggs and DIrty Dave both of whom have been designing exciting new sets which I decided will lube dance muscles more adequately than that slurpee vodka you drank on the way to the bar or the chinese whiskey made from chicken bones at good luck bar.

Awesome Awesometown like whoaaaah Van She Tech / Bang Gang Dangerous Dan!

Awesometown Wed May 12

Oh man. Van She Tech were the first instance for me where I respect the DJ sets as much as the band themselves. Really classy, full of sperm and fury, an unrecognizable party pistol of dance fumes. I remember when my little sister came back from Australia singing the praises of this ol’ jam:

14 UFO (Van She Tech Remix) by c@s@nov@

Although she was only singing like half of one line - “Hey Ryan, you know that song that’s like…bright lights… something something?” somehow I had an idea of what she meant. haha. Here is a freshy fresherson jam that has all the right cymbals:

Techno Music by Van She Tech

Solid jams. I don’t think there even ARE cymbals in that track. Hmm. Moving on.

Well. This being the release party for The Ritz, Dangerous Dan of Bang Gang fame will most undoubtedly be dropping the track of the evening:

Dangerous Dan - The Ritz (Riton Live in Amsterdam Version) by 99minus17

Super! Anne Lee and I will be in NYC so if someone will dress up like us and make sure Dirty Dave doesn’t play a 28 minute remix of Skatman that would be appreciated. Whoo hooooo summer!

Photos from BLOW UP LA / TILT now up on Tommy B

March 22nd, 2010

Dirty Dave really pulled it together this Saturday at Blow UP, setting the stage for Database to take things to play a next level, The Glass performing some live mega dance jams, and Stretch taking the club to closing time like a goddamned professional.

BLOW UP LA - Spring Fever Edition! March 20

March 4th, 2010

So new news first! BLOW UP LA is going quarterly - we are growing up and are taking things seriously. So this quarter, Spring fever, next quarter, BLOW UP Summer Smash!

Yes that means this March 20 is the last Blow Up until June.

This March 20, Blow UP is going so international it is ridiculous. We are teaming up with Tilt to bring:

From Sao Paulo, Brazil, the producer/remixer duo Database is presenting LA the opportunity to hear some exciting South American squelchy acid bass electro remixes and original jams. I’ve never had so much fun managing data. Listen to some of their remixes and original tracks

Then from NYC/Berlin, The Glass will be performing LIVE - yep! remember BANDS? you know those people who play INSTRUMENTS and SING? That is the situation we are dealing with ladies and gentlemen. The Glass write some pretty awesome musics and have SEXY Irish accents.

Legendary New York DJ Stretch Armstrong, who is responsible for introducing you to more hip hop than you could ever even begin to imagine. I mean read this bio ridiculous right?

SO last but not lease - from France we have the Penelope[s]. Displaying a wide range of sounds, everything from an amazing cover of Beastie Boys’ Sabotage to some more chill out vibes of their Lala land single. Check it out here!

So it would be good to give a bit of a recap, because I know you probably didn’t read any of that anyway and love BULLET POINTS:

  • BLOW UP LA is on March 20
  • at 10:00 PM with
  • Database (Brazil)
  • The Glass (NYC)
  • Stretch Armstrong (NYC)
  • The Penelope(s) (Paris)
  • At the Echoplex
  • 18+
  • $12 at the door

Well that was a lot of fun. Next Blow UP I think we might try a POWERPOINT presentation.

TILT w/Tommie Sunshine March 4th @ Spaceland! wooot wooooot

February 25th, 2010

The first time I saw Tommie Sunshine I thought who IS this beardy mothafucka. The first time I heard Tommie Sunshine, I thought WHOAH, that beard must be hiding musical secrets, assorted smiles etc. I mean just look at all of these assorted jams . Classic Disco/House/Acid mixed into maximum party-bilities.

Rounding out the night, the ever-fashionable Louisahhh of Staccato (who’s mix was stuck in my car CD player for 2 months - by choice!), and Steven Bloodbath, who has personally invented new ways to party that are so phenomenally illegal that i can’t even hint about what I’m talking about.

You don’t have to believe me that this will be awesome, check out our what our buddies at Tilt have to say - they have some more sweet jams posted there too :).

Event is 21+ at spaceland - Click here for the Facebook Invite!

Jokers of The Scene - Saturday Dec. 19 2009!

December 15th, 2009

blow up la flyer

Oh man. Canada’s best contribution to life since poutine unstoppable duo Jokers of the Scene are playing Blow UP LA this Saturday at one of our favorite undisclosed (as of yet) locations. I don’t know if any of you happened to catch their set at Coachella but it was one of my favorite DJ sets of the entire festival.

If that weren’t enough, Goddollars, from the self described “poly-sexual dance party” otherwise known as “A Club Called Rhonda” will be actively churning the dancefloor into a sexy sweatbox (which sounds like a vagina and is actually surprisingly similar).

Dirty Dave and Whitney Fierce (Lewd NYC) will start the night off with enough sexual energy to sterilize a rape whale. Which doesn’t make sense, but neither does this.

Grab the JOTS remix of Passion Pit’s Little Secret from rcrdlbl.com here.

ZOMBIE PARTY!!!!!

April 7th, 2009

We are getting a little bit of an early start this month, because it’s going to be a very special party. We are celebrating the release of a fantastic new book called Pride and Prejudice and ZOMBIES! Oh yes, Jane Austen with a twist of Zombies…. and NINJAS? Get your costumes ready, because whether you go as a zombie or a ninja, Tommy B will be doing a special photo booth for you to carry out your epic battles. The DJ’s are yet to be announced, but they’re awesome so keep an eye out for future announcements. And perhaps an un-dead thriller dance session on the patio after midnight? You never know….

NOW LET’S PARTY!

I have to say that this is by far my favorite Blow Up LA flyer that I’ve ever been fortunate enough to model on. It allowed me to take my traditional Lolita attire, and take it to the next, guro-lolita, level. I have to thank three very special Los Angeles Lolitas (Jen, Lauran, and Lauren) for helping me with the outfit and make up. Everyone did a great job:)
